Club Membership

Our Alexandria SERTOMA Club Roster reads like the "Who's Who" of the Alexandria Area. The club roster includes bankers, insurance executives, retailers, realtors, doctors, lawyers, small business owners, and even law enforcement. They come to network. They come to enjoy good company. They come to serve. Some organizations are big on pins and bright colored vests. Sertoma is big on service, on getting important things done, and on having fun through the whole process.

If you're a giver and a doer and enjoy the company of bright people doing significant work, then you need to contact us to learn more about Sertoma.

A Brief History of the Alexandria Area Sertoma Club

Once upon a time a group of Alexandria businessmen including Pat Sherman, Kirk Kedrowski, Don Johnson, Bill Kern, and Warren Stefanski, were looking for a way to become more involved with the community.  They decided they needed to join a service club and started exploring their options. It turns out that none of them could sing which greatly limited their options. They found out that Sertoma included very limited singing and decided that was the way to go. The Alexandria Sertoma Club was chartered by the Saint Cloud Sertoma Club on February 19, 1975. The first official club meeting was held on February 26, 1975 at Garden Center with president Pat Sherman presiding. The club had 29 charter members with Don Johnson being the only non-quitter in the group. Don was joined shortly by current members Kevin Mahoney and Roger Blank. That means that our club has at least 3 members who are OLD!

The group wanted to combine service projects with fun and they did so from the beginning. The club wanted not only to give to the community from their pockets but with their time and talents as well.  Early service projects included pouring sidewalks at Bethany Home and holding hearing screenings at area schools as well as the state fair. An unwritten Sertoma “motto” is: Sertomans work hard…and play harder. This has been true of the Alexandria Sertoma Club from the start. Social events have included Halloween parties, Final Four Parties, and numerous golf outings to name a few.
